Reflections

Learning Log #5

In this subject, I learn a lot of things throughout the whole semester. This subject is not that easy as I think before. Based on the lessons that I had learn, I get a lot of significant idea in the Assessment Strategies. In this lesson we are taught a lot of strategies on how to assess our students fairly without any biases. This lesson will help me a lot in the near future when I become a teacher. In the topic of Curriculum Framing Questions I find it hard to understand some of the sub- topics. I always get confused in determining the different between the unit questions and essential questions. I can say that this topic is a little bit tricky because you need to analyze the questions. Also, we need to think deeply and critically in constructing the essential question because the essential question must be broad and catchy that will cover the scope your topic.

As what I have experience in using the website, I can say that the website is user-friendly. The topics are organized in every week. We will not be confused as to where we can find the topics because we can easily see the topics in the home tab arranged in every week. And I think the web is an enough tool in helping the students to learn and there is nothing to be improved so far.


The whole semester in taking Edtech was very fun and inspiring. Especially in the laboratory class, it was so amazing and fulfilling when you can finish an activity.

Based on what I have observed in the teaching and learning processes in educational technology was very good because they really adapt the new way of teaching that is the use of technology. Their learning strategies were so inspiring and fulfilling based on my learning in his course. The only thing to be improve in teaching this subject is that they should conduct some outside of the classroom activities that will help us broaden our knowledge like seminars about the use of technology in education, etc. But all in all, I really learned a lot of things in this subject. Since this is my last subject in Educational Technology, I would really miss all the things involve in this subject especially my Teachers. J

Teacher-Support and Student-Support Materials

Learning Log #4

             Education is now developing a new trend of way in teaching. It focused on students’ ability to learn on their own with the guidance of a teacher. This new way of teaching approach classify the two subjects in a learning process, the students become self-directed and the teacher is not the superior but the facilitator.
            We need to develop a self-directed learner because in this way the learners will individually takes the initiatives and responsibilities towards the given tasks. It is where the learners/students assess their own learning, manage their self and be independent. Self-directed learning can be challenging and can motivate the student to learn more. Self-direction does not mean the learner learns alone or they are isolated but in this situation, the total learning experience of the students is through their eagerness to learn in the subject matter.

            A teachers’ goal is to give learning and lessons which their students will never forget. Teachers try their best to pass learning to their students effectively but they do it in a different ways. For me as a future teacher, I can create a self-directed learner by conducting self-directed learning activities in my classroom. These self-directed learning activities must reach my learning objectives. Since I am physics major, I will give my students a problem to be solved. They should find a way on how to solve the problem then I will let them discuss it in the class for some feedback and for them to share their ideas to their classmates.

Web 2.0 Tools

Learning Log #3

                We are now living in a world of high technologies. We can now do a lot of things that is impossible in the past.  Today is the dream of the past. And we are so lucky that we are born in this generation which we can connect, communicate and engage around the world through internet. Through technology we can access around the globe anytime, anywhere as long as we have internet connection. This technology has also a very important rule in education. It helps educators in teaching and in communicating their students. Through these technologies a teacher can now communicate to their students even without meeting each other. She can share, post and give necessary information to help his/her students.


                                    
           We are now introduced with the Web 2.0 tools to help every teacher connect to their students through internet. Based on my field, I can say that youtube, drive and mails are the most helpful and appropriate tool in my subject area. In order to incorporate these tools in my class, first I should include this in my unit plan by giving some information about these tools and what are the significance of these in our subject area.

                I can say that these tools are very important in giving important information to my students. Youtube can contribute a great impact in the learning and understanding of my students. It is because we all know that Physics has a lot of analogy. It is difficult to understand if the student should do only analogy on their own. A teacher should think about another strategy to help their student, so youtube would be very useful. Because youtube has a lot of videos and animation that can help a student understand the  lesson. There are also a lot of information and references that we can view in this cite regarding in physics. Drive is also useful, it help us teacher save many documents online, it helps a teacher became paperless in their classroom. Mails, it will help a teacher send urgent information to their students even without meeting them. Therefore, through these tools it gives the teacher a less hassle, and every teacher can assure that the information is appropriate for the goals and objectives of their lessons.

Learning Log #2

The 2016 ISTE Standards for Students includes the following: Empowered Learner, Digital Citizen, Knowledge Constructor, Innovative Designer, Computational Thinker, Creative Communicator and Global Collaborator. These standards are applicable to both teachers and students to achieve the foundational technology skills. It enables us to engage in the current trend of technology in order to be connected in the digital world. Aside from that, through these standards it can help teaching to be more effective for the students. Using technology to teach, to learn, and discover is what ISTE Standards are aiming for. 

What are the ISTE standards that you possess? Please cite specific personal experiences wherein you portray such standards?

                As a student, I believe that among those 7 standards I possess one of those and it is the Computational Thinker. It is where the students develop and employ strategies for understanding and problem solving. In this standard, students formulate problem definitions suited for technology-assisted methods such as data analysis, abstract models and algorithmic thinking in exploring and finding solutions. As a student, I love solving problems especially in math. There is a time when my Aunt approach me and share to me what their thesis all about. I was so interested to their study because it is an online game where a student should answer some problems in math using the technology and they called it Online Treasure Hunt. In this game a student must be a Computational Thinker in order to solve the problems that are given in the game. This game is a step by step game because you cannot go to the next level if you cannot answer the first question. The game requires student strategies in solving every given problems.

As a future teacher, how can I develop these standards in my students?
                First of all, I will make sure that my students would be properly engaged with the technology. My students should know what are the important things that they should get in using technology. They should know how technology helped them in their learning. After these, I will conduct hands-on activities involving these standards using the technology that will develop their skills in critical thinking and problem solving. I will make sure that at the end my students will also possess these standards to help them become more effective and competitive students that will conquer the digital world.

The 21st Century Skills

Learning Log #1


             
                The 21st century skills are a set of abilities that students need to develop in order to succeed in the information age. 21st century skills helps students deliver information and to develop their critical thinking and problem solving skill in order to broaden one’s knowledge and confidence.
            The 21st century skill that I need to develop is the Effective Communication Skills.

Why?
            Effective Communication Skills is the ability to share information, thoughts, feelings and emotion. It also includes the encoding and decoding information. This is the skill that I need to improve because I do lack of self-confidence especially when I am facing a large crowd. Lacking self-confidence, is a great hindrance in expressing your thoughts and ideas. There are some instances that I do have an idea but I am ashamed in sharing it in class because I am afraid I am wrong. This is why I want to develop this skill because I am a future teacher and my future work is to stand up in front of my students to teach them. How can I become a better and competitive teacher if I can’t stand confidently in front of my students?


How?

             I really want to develop this skill but how?
             I can do it by conquering all my fears and insecurities of myself. I should be confident in delivering my ideas and thoughts. I must teach my students with passion and commitment. Also, I would accept advises and comments from my classmates, friends and my teachers on how to improve my self-confidence based on my behavior so that I will know what are the things that I need to be done and to improve. 

As a future teacher, how will I develop the 21st century skills among my students?

            As a future teacher, our duty is to teach our students the things what they need to learn. We are all aware that these skills are important not only for the teachers but also to the students. To develop these skills I would conduct activities that would help them develop these skills. I would encourage every student to participate religiously to assure their learning and realization in line with the activity. I would let them think critically and solve some problems to test their ability to think and decision making. I would also consider the communication skills in every activity because these are very important in the collaboration and teamwork of my students.
